Bio
Garrett has been playing, loving, and living music for 20+ years as a professional musician. After years of private lessons and playing/preforming in many music projects locally, including three years in the Elk Grove Jazz Band touring California, winning both soloist and group awards, he was accepted to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, he studied harmony, ear training, theory, styles and improvisation. Garrett graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Music/Music Business and has been teaching both Bass and Guitar professionally for the last 15 years, both in store and privately.
Method
Garrett’s one on one individualized teaching methods focus on two points,
That his students have fun and enjoy themselves through a love of music
That they not only learn what they love and enjoy playing but also the techniques and specifics to ensure a long lasting and ever evolving love of music.
He designs a program that is suited to each students individual desires and needs. The hope is that no matter where you go from here, you will be “well rounded” and carry the joy of music with you always. He heavily encourages creativity, improvisation, and songwriting from the skills learned in lessons. With Garrett, you will not only learn how to play your favorite song, but also “jam” with friends, compose alone or with other musicians, learn how to read music, multiple techniques and styles, ear training, and music theory.
Garrett records each and every lesson, for his students. “Your” lessons are e-mailed to you with helpful hints, audio examples, and play along tools so you will always have a reference, if you need one.
Work History
Aside from 15 years of teaching experience Garrett has a wide variety of musical achievements, both professionally and personally, in recording, preforming, directing, and composition. He has completed 2 national tours, each coinciding with an album release from Root One Music. Garrett is a credited studio musician on 2 MTV/LOGO award winning albums. He is involved in a number of small ensembles and “big band” Jazz groups and has been a staple performer in a number of local church bands including Grace Church, and First Baptist of Elk Grove. Garrett (who never sits still for long)’s latest project is an 8 piece performance band who entertains mainly high end weddings and corporate events performing every style of music.
