Brass/Woodwind Instructor: Jordyn Kennell

From Operas to Big Bands, Symphony Orchestras to Chamber Groups, Jordyn Kennell has established herself as a well-rounded, determined and enthusiastic musician. With over 12 years of experience on trumpet, she has been teaching private lessons since she was 16 years old.
When Jordyn was going into middle school, she was already fighting to be the top of her age. She competed in honor bands and was first chair in her county. Going into high school, she arranged quintets in her free time and played principal trumpet in the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra after school. She never took a break from the trumpet and was determined to keep pushing for greatness. By the time she was a senior she had been accepted as the first trumpet in the Stanislaus County High School Honor Band and had also been accepted into the All-Northern California Honor Band twice. While playing principal in her high school’s top wind ensemble, the group was accepted to play in the National Band and Orchestra Festival at
Carnegie Hall, NYC.
Jordyn has played principal trumpet with the Modesto Opera on multiple occasions, continues to play with the Folsom Lake Symphony, and plays principal for Sac State’s Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and also plays in the Big Band. She is currently finishing her undergrad at Sacramento State (CSUS) majoring in Music Education and aspires to teach as many young, ambitious musicians as she can.

Her key philosophy for teaching is to inspire her students and encourage them to want to practice and to only motivate, never discourage. Her key philosophy to playing is to always play with purpose and with the most beautiful, resonant sound you can produce.

Jordyn’s background of music includes both jazz and classical experience as well as chamber music, and wind band music.
