year of the walnut color on Customs, the most luxurious SG made. Mahogany body,
long-tenon neck joint, 3 piece laminate mahogany neck, bound ebony fingerboard,
‘fretless wonder’ small low frets, 1 9/16” wide at nut, neck goes from a C shape and tapers quickly to a D shape as you go up the
neck, typical of Gibson necks of this era. Mother of pearl logo, split-diamond
head inlay and block fingerboard markers strongly hint the model occupies the
then top of the SG line. Gold plated hardware drives this point home including
the Kluson Radiator back tuners, the Maestro tremolo, and the tune-o-matic
Weight is a bit under 8 lbs. Action sweet and low. The frets while low are still quite playable, you get used to them, all your notes and chords are there, or re-fret it if you prefer, we’ll leave that up to you.
Patent number humbuckers are supposed to be identical to PAFs and you have three of them! Neck, middle/bridge (out of phase) and bridge pickup have the fat, rich sweet tone the best humbuckers have.
No wood repairs, electronics are original, check out the photo of the control cavity. Pots have been cleaned. NOTE: At some point, Kluson-Style Machine Heads were installed, although no routing occurred, however... Original Tuners are on in use and it looks, feels, and operates the way it should. Guitar plays great and is ready to collect and/or play as shown. This is ready for action whatever the next lucky owner decides.
Real, old mahogany, real ebony, patent humbuckers and mother of pearl all over add up to a piece of classic Americana electric guitar that can be owned and cherished for the next 50 more years!
