Drums & Percussion Instructor: Mark Gotwalt
Beginning to advanced snare drum, drum set technique, rudimental and orchestral snare, jazz, rock, and Latin rhythms.
Mark began playing drums fifty years ago. Born and raised in Chicago, he studied with several of the top instructors, including the late Barrett Deems, who was the premier drummer for Louie Armstrong. Mark played many of the major hotels in the Chicago area before enlisting in the USAF where he played in the drum and bugle corps. Upon discharge mark settled in Sacramento. He began teaching at jack’s house of music in 1979, where he remained for twenty-three years as the drum instructor, until the retirement of Jack Hyde and the store’s closure. Mark is also a life member of the Sacramento traditional jazz society.
Mark brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to skips team of instructors, specializing in a vast resource of snare drum and drum set literature. Realizing that each student is an individual, his program was designed to insure success and gratification for all age groups from middle, high school and adults. Mark brings a positive outlook to his students, which boosts their self-esteem in their music and in everyday life. Whether competing for first chair in the school band or an adult returning to the instrument, Mark’s methods have proven successful in achieving a life long love of music and percussion in particular.
