Ms. Zhao was classically trained and loves musical theater. Valuing diversity, Ms. Zhao loves folk music. She sings with dynamic emotional expressions and a rich resonance.
Bio
Growing up listening to her mom singing folk songs in China, she became a trainee of Taizhou Huai Opera Troupe as a teenager.
At college, she was one of the key singers of the cassette Children’s Songs for the Dragon composed by Deidre Vyse and published by Jiangsu Audio and Visual Publishing House in China. Most noticeably, she has been a member of the Nanjing International Choir and Renaissance Choir Sacramento. She has received Orff-Schulwerk music training in China and is a big fan of Education Through Music emphasizing the connection between music and kinesthetic movement.
Ms. Zhao taught singing lessons at an after-school program in Elk Grove over the summer and is currently studying choir with Daniel Paulson at Sacramento City College and voice with Lee Hoffman at American River College.
Method
Born of a teacher’s family for two generations, Ms. Zhao loves music education. She is facilitative and patient. She has worked with kids of special needs for a year and is excited to bring music and singing to teenagers and adults alike.
Key aspects of her voice teaching include balancing vocal registers (chest, head, and mixed voice), practicing exercises like lip trills, sirens and developing good listening skills for pitch match.
To accommodate student’s schedule, Ms. Zhao is available to teach on Saturday mornings.
